World's Largest Solar Boat

A German-built solar powered boat embarked on a 31,000 mile round-the-world voyage this past Monday from Monaco — making it the largest such “solar vessel” ever to attempt the feat.

The boat, built in just 14 months, is covered with over 5,780 square feet of 18.8 percent-efficiency photovoltaic cells, with a capable output of 93.5kW of power.

“The aim is to offer future-proof solutions for sustainable living in major cities and environmentally responsible mobility concepts,” said the boat’s owner, German eco-investor Immo Stroher. “Solar mobility can make a significant contribution to this endeavor.”
